What Is Proteinuria?
Proteinuria refers to the presence of abnormal amounts of protein in the urine. Under normal circumstances, the kidneys filter waste products and excess substances from the blood, including proteins. However, when the kidneys are not functioning properly, they may allow proteins, particularly albumin, to leak into the urine, leading to proteinuria.
Causes of Proteinuria:
- Kidney Diseases: Conditions such as glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, and nephrotic syndrome can cause proteinuria.
- High Blood Pressure: Hypertension can damage the kidneys, leading to protein leakage.
- Diabetes: Uncontrolled diabetes can affect kidney function and cause proteinuria.
- Other Factors: Certain medications, infections, and autoimmune disorders can also contribute to proteinuria.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Proteinuria
- Ayurvedic approaches to treating proteinuria focus on balancing the body’s doshas (bioenergetic forces), improving kidney function, and reducing protein leakage in urine.
- Herbal Remedies: Herbs like Punarnava, Gokshura, Varuna, and others are used to support kidney health, reduce inflammation, and improve urinary function.
- Dietary Adjustments: Following a kidney-friendly diet that includes adequate hydration, moderate protein intake, and low-sodium foods.
- Lifestyle Modifications: Stress management, regular physical activity, and avoiding kidney-damaging substances.
