Kidney Dialysis

Ayurvedic Treatment

What is Kidney dialysis?

Kidney dialysis is a medical procedure that performs the functions of the kidneys when they are no longer able to adequately filter waste products and excess fluids from the blood. Dialysis is typically required for individuals with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) or severe kidney failure where the kidneys have lost most of their function.

Types of Kidney Dialysis:

  1. Hemodialysis:

    • In hemodialysis, blood is circulated outside the body through a dialyzer (a machine that acts as an artificial kidney).
    • The dialyzer filters out waste products and excess fluids before returning cleaned blood back into the body.
  2. Peritoneal Dialysis:

    • Peritoneal dialysis involves using the peritoneum (a membrane lining the abdominal cavity) as a natural filter.
    • A dialysis solution is infused into the abdomen through a catheter, and waste products and excess fluids pass from the blood vessels into the dialysis solution.

Medilux Ayurveda Approach to Supporting Kidney Health and Dialysis

While Ayurveda primarily focuses on preventive and holistic health care, it can complement conventional medical treatments like dialysis in several ways:

  1. Herbal Support:

    • Ayurvedic herbs such as Punarnava, Gokshura, Varuna, and others are known for their diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and kidney-supporting properties.
    • These herbs may help in managing symptoms associated with kidney disease and supporting overall kidney function.
  2. Dietary Recommendations:

    • Ayurvedic dietary principles emphasize a kidney-friendly diet that includes fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and adequate hydration.
    • Foods low in sodium and phosphorus and moderate in protein are recommended to reduce strain on the kidneys and manage fluid balance.
  3. Stress Reduction and Lifestyle Management:

    • Ayurvedic practices such as yoga, meditation, and pranayama (breathing exercises) help in reducing stress and promoting overall well-being.
    • Managing stress is crucial for individuals undergoing dialysis, as it can impact blood pressure and overall health.
  4. Holistic Health Care:

    • Ayurveda considers the individual as a whole and aims to balance physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of health.
    • Ayurvedic practitioners may provide supportive therapies and lifestyle recommendations to enhance quality of life alongside dialysis treatment.
